David Bowie (1947-2016)
Where are all the other Supermen?
The rope bridge trembles beneath our feet, the abyss beneath glares up at us, with manic eyes of fire red and shadow black, but still we walk, on and on. Leave behind the last men, for they cling to the animals of the earth, like children to their stuffed toys. If they but knew the True purpose of animal life, its rich symbolism guiding us, from the majestic pride of the eagle in the sky to the deep knowledge of the serpent on the ground, then they might relinquish their grasp, unshackle their chains they so masochistically bound themselves in, and join us on the bridge, progressing onwards towards the future of man – the Superman.
A major creative synthesis is now required. David Bowie tantalised us with intuitive glimpses of what was possible. Subtle references to Nietzsche in his lyrics showed that he too had glimpsed at what could be. Bowie’s art was a synthesis of ideas all pointing towards something great, something powerful, but something perhaps the man himself didn’t even really understand. Style may have prevailed over substance, form over content, but there was clearly an intuitive grasp of something underneath. Bowie’s creative synthesis showed the power of Mythos to entice and tantalise us. Now, therefore, is the time to add the Logos element. Read Nietzsche, truly understand what Bowie’s intuition was trying to tell him. Cross the bridge, become the Superman!

“Without music, life would be a mistake.” – Nietzsche
“I’m not a prophet or a stone age man,
Just a mortal with potential of a superman; I’m living on.
I’m tethered to the logic of homo sapiens,
Can’t take my eyes from the great salvation of bullshit faith.
If I don’t explain what you ought to know,
You can tell me all about it on the next Bardo.
I’m sinking in the quicksand of my thought,
And I ain’t got the power anymore.
Don’t believe in yourself,
Don’t deceive with belief,
Knowledge comes with death’s release!” – Bowie
